The university aims to become a centre of excellence in building sustainability into research and teaching and learning and work with local, regional, national and global bodies to help build sustainable learning communities.

Universities are essential to build a sustainable society, and world. Here at the University of Brighton, we take our role seriously and have defined Sustainability as one of the university's core values.

Our aim is to embed it into all the work that we do. This can only be done by a large number of dedicated staff and students accross the university. This website is the first attempt to bring all this wonderful work together.

Rail fare discounts extended

A Students’ Union led campaign has led to reduced price train travel between Brighton and Eastbourne for students.

From May, the boundaries for Southern Railway’s Unizone season ticket,
are being extended to offer unlimited train travel across the university’s
campuses at Brighton and Eastbourne.

These developments were the result of a Students’ Union led campaign
to widen access to discounted rail travel. Paul Cooke, Vice President
Campus and Communications said:

“I am delighted that we have achieved this success for so many of our
students. Studying at a university spread across so many sites and
three different towns/cities means that our students often have to
travel. This is expensive for everyone but as their income is so limited,
it really hits our students hard in the pocket.”

How to apply for a Unizone season ticket

Students can apply for Unizone tickets. Details of how to apply
for a Unizone season ticket are available on the Southern Railway

You will need to have a valid NUS Extra card to apply. Details on how
to obtain this card are available on the Students’ Union website.

Recycling on the up...

The university has invested heavily in new recycling facilities for all campuses at the University of Brighton. This is a great step forward and has been launched along with the ambitious target that by the end of this year, 75% of all waste generated on site will be recycled.
