Universities are essential for building a sustainable society. Here at the University of Brighton, we take our role seriously and have defined sustainability as one of the university's core values.
Our aim is to embed it into all the work that we do. This can only be done by a large number of dedicated staff and students across the university.
In 2015, we were a finalist in the Green Gown Awards in the Instuitional Change category. Watch the video below to find out what we've been doing to embed sustainability in all that we do.

The Big Xmas Switch-Off
Before heading off for a well- deserved break this Christmas, staff and students across the university will be coming together as part of our c-change campaign to help cut carbon emissions during the holiday period.
Last year, thanks to the fantastic efforts of staff and students participating in the Big Xmas Switch Off, the university’s energy bills were cut by around £1500 compared to Christmas 2013. This year any savings made on our energy bills will be put towards the university’s Global Opportunities Scholarship fund.

Be part of c-change: volunteering opportunity
Passionate about the environment? Want to make a difference, learn new skills and boost your CV?
Then why not get involved with the university's c-change campaign, and volunteer for one hour a week to support a team of staff to make their working area greener as part of the c-change Green Impact scheme?
You'll learn how to put sustainability into practice in the workplace, and develop your team-working, time management and people skills along the way.

Travel Week 15-16: 19th to 23rd Oct
As part of the University of Brighton's c-change campaign for a more sustainable university, we're running our annual 'Travel Week' on all campuses between the 19th and 23rd October.
Throughout the week, we'll be providing help and advice for all those staff and students who want to adopt more sustainable travel options for their journey to campus, and having a lot of fun along the way!

Biodiversity Q&A with Chris Joyce
In December 2014 the UoB began biodiversity restoration works at Watts Bank on Moulsecoomb campus. Chris Joyce ecology lecturer at the University of Brighton and co-creator of the UoB Biodiversity Action Plan with Dr Maureen Berg will be helping all of us non-ecologist understand exactly what is happening and why.

Green Week 2015
Green Week 2015 is on its way! The E&FM Environment Team and Brighton Students’ Union 'Bright n Green' team are now developing the programme of events for Green Week 2015 - from 9th-13th March.

Rail fare discounts extended
A Students’ Union led campaign has led to reduced price train travel between Brighton and Eastbourne for students.
In May 2014 the boundaries for Southern Railway’s Unizone season ticket,
were extended to offer unlimited train travel across the university’s
campuses at Brighton and Eastbourne.
Students can apply for Unizone tickets. Details of how to apply
for a Unizone season ticket are available on the Southern Railway
to obtain this card are available on the Students’ Union website.
Recycling on the up...
The university has invested heavily in new recycling facilities for all campuses at the University of Brighton. This is a great step forward and has been launched along with the ambitious target that by the end of this year, 75% of all waste generated on site will be recycled.
