Dr Ryan Woodard is a Research Fellow and has been working in waste management research for over 15 years. The majority of his work involves working with communities, public sector and industry to improve the management of waste and increase awareness of waste issues.
He has worked on projects ranging from monitoring waste flowing into landfill sites through to assessing the role of financial incentives to encourage householders to recycle. Current projects include working in partnership with East Sussex and West Sussex County Councils and Brighton & Hove City Council to develop a strategy for managing commercial and industrial waste, coordinating a training programme for English and French waste officers to share knowledge, writing and teaching the award winning West Sussex County Council Waste Prevention Advisor scheme and working on the Waste Improvement Network, a tool develop to assist local authorities to share good practice.
Ryan has authored over 60 reports and academic papers and presented at conferences/visited projects across the world including Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Turkey, Colombia. In March 2010 he taught workshops on waste management at grass roots level in South Africa and is actively working in partnership with the Dreamcatcher Foundation to develop links and implement projects in the Western Cape.
Ryan sits on the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) Working Group on Communications and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management (CIWM).
